This is gorgeously written, and so sad. I am so glad to see a story where the unrequited love goes both ways -- not just from Severus to Lily, but where she is also afraid to speak up and risk rejection. I loved this.

The touches of sensuality were tasteful and poignant also -- marvelous writing.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I always wondered what pushed Lily toward James so suddenly, when we saw how much she disliked him. The idea that after the 'mudblood' incident she wanted to get back at Severus in the worst way she could think of popped up. Not that I think she didn't love James, but that desire for revenge could have pushed her to do something she never would have considered before-give James a chance. If she truly loved Sev, too, that name calling thing would have been so painful. She would have seen her chance just wash down the drain. I'm glad you liked it.

Ewwwww, moosh!

hehe

Well, other than all that, and the lack of blood and gore and body parts flying all over, this was an excellent piece. I think you capture Severus and Lily and their unconfessed feelings so well that JK should take a look! (Prequel, you overly rich and famous ______!) Never mind! As always, an exellent read. The rain and the abuse really set it up well, and Severus was just pitiable!

Author's Response: Thanks! It is a bit mushy, I agree. I always wondered what could have happened before the 'mudblood' incident. I'm glad you liked it. Where the heck have you been, anyway? I always enjoy a review from you!

OMG! That could SO easily have happened, and then the scene at school with the Maruders would have put an end to BOTH of their hopes.

BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Best one shot to come thru in a long time! BRAVO!

Author's Response: I'm glad it seems possible to you, too. I thought that the obsession with the Dark Lord's power must have been fueled by something. If each of them tried to be what the other wanted, and then it all blew up in their faces when James pushes Severus to the point of breaking, that would explain a lot. And, I felt like Sev needed to have one memory of holding Lily as his own. Just one. He deserved that, I think. Thanks so much!
